By Franklin Wilson The Golden Jaguars will open their quest to win the 2010 Digicel Caribbean Cup (DCC) Championship against fellow Group C team St. Lucia on Wednesday October 13 at the Andre Kamperven Stadium, Parimaribo, Suriname. Host Suriname and the Netherlands Antilles, the other teams in the group will lock horns in the feature game at 21:00hrs on the same date. |

On Sunday August 29, the Bartica Football Sub Association U-17 league kicked off with Rivers View United opposing Mil Ballers United, Mil Ballers defeated their opponent 2-1 in the scheduled game at the Bartica Community Centre ground. Leon Spencer and Shawn Caesar scored in the 56 & 67 minutes respectively and the lone goal for River’s view coming from Aloysius Edwards in the 38 minute. Action continued on Monday August 30 with play in the Hand In Hand U-15 competition. Bartica Beacons United opposed River’s View and the game ended 3-3 with Delon Welch netting 2 goals and Carl Spencer 1 for Beacons, while and O’Neil Richardson 2 goals and Stephen Edwards 1 for Rivers View. A date is to be decided for the official commissioning of the flood lights at the venue. Meanwhile, National Super League action in the Bartica area saw Rosignol United being defeated by home side Liquid Gold 1-0 compliments of a Andel Norton goal. Supporting action resulted in Bartica Beacons under-17 defeating Mil Ballers under-17 3-2. The matches were played under the newly installed mercury vapour floodlights. The games were witnessed by president of the Guyana Football Federation Colin Klass, Vice president of GFF and president of Bartica Football Sub Association Mr. Carlos Prowell, Regional Chairman Mr. Holbert Knights, Secretary of Bartica Football Sub Association Mr. Carlton Beckles, Vice president of Bartica Neighbourhood Democratic Council Mr. Richard Williams and patrons of the mining community. An under-15 game was played on Wednesday August 25 between Lazio and River’s View ended 1-1. The points standing show: Beacons after four games have 9 points Wolves Unites after four games 6 points River’s View after 2 games 3 points Lazio after 3 games 7 points Mil Ballers after 3 games 4 points Rising Stars after 4 games 0 points |

August 31, 2010 | By KNews | Filed Under Sports Nykasie Liverpool FIFA assistant referee Nykasie Liverpool left Guyana yesterday to officiate in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in neighbouring Trinidad and Tobago. The 16-team finals will kick off on September 5 with hosts Trinidad and Tobago taking on Chile at the Hasley Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain. The tournament will run until September 25. Liverpool who hails from the East Coast of Demerara has been an international referee since 2004. She will be officiating in her second FIFA Tournament, having officiated at the Women’s Under-20 World Cup in Chile in 2008. |

September 2, 2010 | By KNews | Filed Under Sports Two-day Camp commences tomorrow The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has named a squad of thirty three (33) players to commence training for participation in a friendly International match against Trinidad and Tobago’s National Under-20 team September 26 at the National Stadium, Providence. Additionally, the team will also prepare for competition in the Caribbean Football Union Under-20 tournament to be hosted by Guyana, October 6-10. Participating teams in this group will include Jamaica, Grenada, Guyana and the winner of a USVI and Turks and Caicos play-off scheduled for September 15. |
